Open to the public since January 1953, the Toirano Caves tourist route includes a visit to the Grotta della Bàsura and the Grotta Inferiore di Santa Lucia.
The Grotta della Bàsura, known since time immemorial, but only explored in its entirety since 1950, is an archaeological site known worldwide for its important deposit of cave bear bones, among the largest that can be visited in Europe, and the exceptional traces of the passage of a small group of homo sapiens, who explored the cave around 14,000 years ago, at the end of the Upper Palaeolithic.
