Just a stone’s throw from the centre of Savona, there are numerous opportunities for nature walks along paths that immerse themselves in the green woods and the scents of the Mediterranean maquis. One of these is the path that starts at Via Scotti, then turns left along a short stretch of asphalt road and then takes the path named after ‘Chiara Luce Badano’. The route climbs the verdant hillside until it reaches the small church of Madonna degli Angeli. Once at the top, you can admire a magnificent panorama that embraces the city of Savona and its gulf all the way to Vado Ligure and beyond. Perfect stop to take a few photographs and contemplate the infinite horizon.
Retracing your steps beyond the church, you can reach the 19th-century fort, strategically positioned for its defensive function against the city of Savona. Afterwards, take the path again to descend to the hamlet called ‘Fontanassa’. In this part the route is rather narrow and bumpy, but in a short time you reach the asphalt road and then return to the city centre.
Along the way, there are some wooden railings and steps for the steepest sections. The care of these paths, a true heritage of the local hinterland, is entrusted to the often voluntary work of numerous associations that are dedicated to the maintenance, promotion and preservation of hiking trails.
