DOC wines, extra virgin olive oil, Slow Food Presidia, tastings and events… what if Albenga became the gastronomic capital of the Ligurian Riviera?
The undisputed king is the PDO Riviera Ligure Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which is obtained from the first pressing of strictly local olives, such as Taggiasca, Pignola or Colombaia. Its organoleptic qualities make it fragrant and round, fruity and not too intense, ideal with fish from the Ligurian Sea, seasonal vegetables or on a bread crouton during an aperitif overlooking the sea. Aren’t you already dreaming about it?
It is the proximity to the sea, the climate, the purity of the air and the composition of the soil that make the Piana di Albenga an ideal place for growing aromatic plants. Thyme, rosemary, basil, marjoram and many delicacies and first fruits of the garden, but – above all – remember to taste the ‘Slow Food Presidia’, unique and protected products of local agricultural production: the violet asparagus, the ox-heart tomato, the trombetta courgette and the spiny artichoke, known as ‘The four of Albenga’.
For the sea-view aperitif, the DOC Riviera Ligure di Ponente wines are a must, including Pigato (a harmonious, fruity white wine with characteristic Mediterranean scents), Vermentino and Rossese.

A not-to-be-missed event to fully experience the territory through wine tastings led by expert sommeliers, mini-tasting courses, extra virgin olive oil tastings, show-cooking and numerous other initiatives related to the promotion of local cuisine.
