6 days in the Riviera of the Palms by MTB Guide Finale

FROM TO

A surprising itinerary for those with a taste for adventure on their bikes. Discover one of the most evocative corners of the Riviera, where you will discover villages set like gems, rising up in a magnificent coastal stretch between mountains and sea.

ITINERARY

This itinerary completes the ‘3 days discovering the Finale area‘ excursion with which it shares the initial programme, and continues with the itinerary on the fourth day, which starts from beautiful Alassio. This elegant location is rich in cultural evidence of the many famous people who have lived here. Alassio is known as the city of lovers, and its ‘muretto‘ is famous. It is full of autographs of celebrities from the worlds of show business and culture imprinted on the ceramics that cover it like a splendid mosaic. The itinerary continues along the ancient Via Julia Augusta in the direction of Colla Micheri, to visit this charming little village, where the Norwegian anthropologist and explorer Thor Heyerdahl took up residence. We continue to the town of Andora from where we reach Imperia, for a real dive into history at the Museo dell’Olivo Carlo Carli. Here you can admire the testimonies and treasures of an ancient past, through an exhibition that, in its rooms, tells the story of the olive tree and its precious fruit.

On the fifth day of the tour, we will follow the magnificent Ponente Ligure cycle path, which runs largely along the old railway line. Rich in panoramic views, it passes through eight different municipalities and leads to the discovery of picturesque perched villages and more mundane seaside resorts, following a route that is affected every year by the final stages of the legendary Milan-San Remo cycling race. Among the charming places along this itinerary, Bussana Vecchia is definitely worth a stop: the village, perched on the hills, was half destroyed during an earthquake in 1887 and was abandoned by its inhabitants. During the 1960s it saw a renaissance, becoming populated by poets, painters, craftsmen and turning into an international artists’ village.

The sixth day ‘s programme will lead to the discovery of the locations in the Western Liguria Coastal Park: a journey through the scents of the Mediterranean maquis, among dry stone walls, recognised as a Unesco World HeritageSite, and centuries-old olive trees. While discovering the ancient villages, it will be pleasant to take advantage of gourmet stops to savour the specialities of the local cuisine, from farinata, to the local variant of pizza, which they call sardenaira here, to tasting the fruity tones of the local extra virgin olive oil… Ready to go?
